Herrera-Sanchez, Kayode-Cora Set for 9/9 ShoBox Bill

BoxingScene.com has been informed that junior welterweight Mauricio Herrera will headline the Sept. 9 edition of ShoBox: The New Generation against Hector Sanchez, while in the co-main event, cruiserweight Lateef Kayode meets Felix Cora.The bouts will take place at the Grand Casino in Hinckley, Minn.Herrera (18-1, 7 KOs), a resident of Lake Elsinore, Calif., is on a five-bout tear that includes upsets over Ruslan Provodnikov and Mike Dallas Jr., the second of which was a controversial decision.On the other hand, Sanchez (19-1, 9 KOs), of Santurce, P.R., who hasn’t made the 140-pound limit in two years, stopped Nelson Sanchez (no relation) in one round last year.Kayode (17-0, 14 KOs), a Hollywood-based Nigerian, has annexed the NABA, NABF, and NABO 200-pound titles so far, impressively outpointed Matt Godfrey two months ago after a lackluster showing against Nick Iannuzzi.Felix Cora Jr. (22-5-2, 12 KOs), a southpaw from Galveston, Tex., is coming off back-to-back losses over the past nine months to Enad Licina and Pawel Kolodziej.Chris Avalos (19-1, 15 KOs) was originally scheduled to top the bill, but he pulled out of a fight against Jhonatan Romero (18-0, 11 KOs).Ryan Maquiñana is the boxing correspondent at Comcast SportsNet Bay Area.He’s a member of the Boxing Writers Association of America and The Ring’s Ratings Advisory Panel.E-mail him at rmaquinana@gmail.com, check out his blog at www.maqdown.com or follow him on Twitter: @RMaq28.Tags: Mauricio Herrera , Lateef Kayode
