Briggs is Back: I Hurt Klitschko, He Was Ready To Go!

By Edward Chaykovsky

Former WBO heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs (51-6-1, 45KOs), 39, is planning another comeback. The heavyweight has retained a new promoter, Gary Jones, and plans to return in December or January. Briggs has been away from the ring after taking a terrible beating at the hands of WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko last October. Briggs was able to last the full twelve round distance, but he suffered numerous injuries and spent several days in the hospital. The same twelve round beating, combined with the outcome of Vitali's next fight, inspired Briggs to return. This past March, Klitschko stopped Odlanier Solis in the first round. Solis was dropped after catching a shot, but during the fall he injured himself and couldn't continue. Briggs wants a rematch with Vitali and believes he had the WBC champion in serious trouble in the tenth round. I showed that I wouldn’t quit. If you look at his next fight, he fought Odlanier Solis, and the guy lost in the first round and he made $1.7 million. How is he making that money and Shannon Briggs isn’t paid? He gets knocked out in the first round, an undefeated young man, gone inside three minutes. It proves to me more and more when I look back on my fight with Vitali that there’s unfinished business, Briggs told boxingnewsonline.net. I had him hurt in the 10th round. Klitschko buckled and he was ready to go! This was with one arm. I’ve got my desire back. I’m ready to embark on my mission, it’s not finished, I’m going to be heavyweight champion for the third time. Tags: Vitali Klitschko
