Maloney signs Scot flyweight prospect

Scotland s Prospect Boxing have joined forces with Frank Maloney Promotions, to further the career of Motherwell's flyweight boxing starlet, Iain Butcher (3-0) who yesterday signed a deal with the Kent-based promoters.
Former professional boxing referee and head of Prospect Boxing Paul Graham said at the time of recruiting Butcher that he felt like a provincial football club securing the services of David Beckham as most of the big promoters in British boxing had approached Butcher and were looking to sign him.
After completing the agreement with Frank Maloney, Graham said, Iain has had a great start to his career, but now with Frank on side, I am sure that it won't be long before Scotland has it s next world flyweight champion joining the roll of honour along side Benny Lynch, Walter McGowan, Pat Clinton and Paul Weir.
Maloney, who also has an impressive track record in dealing with the smaller weight divisions, said, I had heard a lot about young Butcher, he s making waves after only his third contest and I am looking to build on previous fights and build him into a title contender.
He will have his first contest (and fourth professional fight) on the undercard of the David Price v Sam Sexton British heavyweight title fight on 19th May at Aintree Racecourse. The card is already packed with six title fights, so to add Iain to the undercard shows how highly I rate him. After that fight we will then will sit down and discuss the next move.
I have a great affinity with Scotland and its boxers and we hope to run shows with Iain Butcher headlining some time in the not so distant future and keep him busy as we look to make him into a champion.
