Yesica Yolanda Bopp, the WBA and WBO female light flyweight champion, returns to action in her native Argentina to face Californian boxer Carina Moreno on January 29, 2011.
The 26-year-old Bopp, who holds an undefeated record of 13-0 with five KOs, is rapidly becoming one of the most popular and well-respected stars in women's boxing, but faces her toughest opposition yet in the 21-2 Moreno. For her part, Moreno is returning from a 14-month layoff since losing her WBC minimumweight title to Anabel Ortiz via a close unanimous decision.
In exchange for the opportunity to fight for another title, and perhaps for financial reasons as well, Moreno agreed to face the champion in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The fight will be held at Polideportivo Municipal in Monte Hermoso, a coastal town in the south of the Buenos Aires province.
Bopp, a lightning-fast and relentless boxer, has yet to lose more than a single round in any of her 13 bouts. Her last fight was a unanimous (100-90, 100-89, 100-89) shutout victory over 17-4 Mexican fighter Ana Arrazola. It was Bopp's second defense of her WBO title, and her sixth time defending the WBA belt she won in December 2008.
Nicknamed "Tuti," Bopp and Cecilia Braekhus of Norway were probably the two most notable female fighters in 2010, as Russian super middleweight champion Natascha Ragosina remained inactive after winning the women's WBF heavyweight title from Pamela London in December 2009.
Moreno seemed confident about her prospects, stating that her sparring has been going well, and that her "main objective is to win and become a multiple world champion once again."
The fight was supposed to take place last year, during which time Bopp vowed to knock out Moreno. Five of Bopp's 13 victories have come by knockout.
