WBA regular heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin (24-0, 16KOs) will begin training in late April for his upcoming defense, according to his manager Vladimir Hryunov. Povetkin will face former two-time heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman (50-7-2, 41KOs) on July 14th in Germany, with the venue still to be determined. For his last fight in February with cruiserweight king Marco Huck, Povetkin's training camp was a disaster - as he started training late due to a disagreement with former coach Teddy Atlas of America. When Atlas refused to travel over to Eastern Europe to train Povetkin, Hryunov was forced to bring in veteran coach Alexander Zimin on late notice. Povetkin struggled in the fight with Huck and there were obvious stamina issues. This time around, Zimin will have plenty of time to prepare Povetkin and utilize new techniques. Alexander, along with his coach Alexander Zimin, will begin the first stage of the preparation for fight with Rahman in late April. In early June, Alex will continue to work in Chekhov. Right now we are select the candidates to serve as Alexander's sparring partners, Hyrunov said.Tags: Hasim Rahman , Alexander Povetkin , Povetkin-Rahman , Povetkin vs Rahman
